Alphrobet

Introduction

Alphrobet is a research project developed in collaboration with graphic designer Nina Jua Klein and Pro-Duck, exploring the creation of a calligraphic typeface using a Kuka 6-axis robot arm. A tube light is attached to the robot's effector head, programmed to trace bespoke characters.

Each character is captured as a still image through long-exposure photography, showcasing the movement of the light. The precision and accuracy of the robot arm make this light-based typeface possible. The characters are designed with the robot’s movements and spatial capabilities in mind, formed through the use of a single, continuous line.
