Introduction

The Rolling Chair is an evolution of the Tighten Table series, exploring the cutting and manipulation of sheet aluminium to reinterpret the traditional rocking chair. The design takes a single sheet and waterjet cuts it with a pre-calculated edge profile, that when mechanically rolled creates a perfect rocking geometry. A separately cut seat pan is spot welded to the outer shell to create the final fixed rigid chair. The centre of gravity has been calculated and used to adjust the curve profile to determine the movement and static resting position of the chair
