Introduction
The Tighten Table is a collection of household, display, and exhibition tables, each crafted from a single sheet of hand-polished, recycled aluminium that is manually bent and tensioned using ratchet straps. This series began as an exploration of how to create a razor-thin, functional table with minimal material use. A key focus is on the product's life cycle, combining bespoke, fully recyclable aluminium with off-the-shelf, reusable strapping. As with much of our work, the aesthetic reflects its fabrication and engineering process.
The fabrication process contrasts machine precision with manual strength. Waterjet cuts are made in the aluminium, allowing the legs to be bent by hand. Ratchet straps are threaded through the metal, with their incremental tension providing stability and rigidity to the table. The final product exists only in equilibrium of flex and tension
